My professional journey in sports and physiotherapy has been deeply enriched by my extensive experience within the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), one of the largest and most respected amateur sporting organisations in the world. During my tenure as the Head Development Officer for London, I had the privilege of playing a key role in promoting and developing Gaelic Games, including both football and hurling, across the city and beyond.
As the Head Development Officer, I was entrusted with the responsibility of advancing the growth of Gaelic Games in London, a city with a rich history of GAA involvement but one that also presented unique challenges in maintaining and expanding the reach of these sports.
My role involved not only the promotion of Gaelic Games but also the strategic development of a comprehensive coaching curriculum tailored to the needs of both beginners and seasoned players.
Curriculum Development and Coaching Leadership:
Johnny's current focus is on the development of developing and implementing a Structured Coaching Curriculum to provide clear, progressive pathways for Coaches & Players of all ages and skill levels.
This Curriculum is designed to ensure that coaches have the tools and knowledge to effectively teach the fundamental skills and strategies of Gaelic football and hurling. It also incorporates modern coaching techniques and sports science principles, making it one of the most forward-thinking programs in the GAA community.
To implement this curriculum, Johnny led a team of over 50 coaches under his direct supervision. This team was crucial in delivering high-quality coaching across numerous clubs and schools throughout London. Johnny provided ongoing training, mentorship, and support to these coaches, ensuring that they were equipped to inspire and develop the next generation of GAA athletes. His leadership helped to foster a strong community of coaches who were committed to the growth of Gaelic Games, resulting in increased participation and improved performance levels across the board.
